It will hurt? What's next?Only with your kind help can we visit the elderly and sick children! Your support can make a huge difference in the quality of life of the patients we see and their families!Puppets in the hospital usually greet visitors with the words "Get well soon!" and "we hope that the next time we come, we won't meet here again." Unfortunately, this is not the case when members of our team visit the previously born in long-term care facilities, geriatric wards or hospices. These are the places where we meet other listeners and viewers. The disease limits them for a long time and many of them know that their health condition will not allow them to return home anymore. And sometimes there is nowhere to return to. Puppets in the hospital have the opportunity to bring some joy and a story with a happy ending to these places as well. Hospice Dobré Pastýř is the place where we started with visits to those born earlier. A large part of the clients here are oncology patients, whom current medicine can no longer help to win the fight against the insidious disease. Unfortunately, some stay here for only a few days or weeks, so we don't find many familiar faces here during our regular visits. The exception is Mrs. Růženka, whom Granka and Tereza visited this time. Ruženka will soon celebrate her 80th birthday and has been in the hospice since October last year. When the actresses entered her room, you could see that she was already waiting for the Puppets with curiosity. "But I don't have to sing with you, do I?" she reassured herself. "Of course not, not at all!" we said with a smile as the first chords began. But it soon became clear that Ms. Růženka had been a member of a folk song and dance ensemble for many years. She sang and danced about her youth in costume, so she joined right after the first song. She confided that she always drew her good mood from sports. She loved skittles! And her husband was also an athlete. After a few songs, Růženka noticed the puppet that we brought into the room with us. It was Kristián, carved from linden wood, with a big heart. Mrs. Rose took him on her lap and hugged him as if one of her six grandchildren had just come to see her. Between songs, they talked about the long journey ahead of her. "Whatever you do, do it with love until the last moment. That's my recipe for a life that's a joy to look back on, even if it's not always singing. That's how I had it. And imagine that I trained as a turner!” She said goodbye to us and we went to the next room. Michal, who no longer leaves his bed, and Honza are waiting for us here. He belongs to the younger generation. He recorded the song Jóžin z bážin with us so loudly that even Mrs. Růženka from the next room came to take a peek... We really wish we could see each other again on our next visit. We help children to laugh again. We have been helping children to laugh again for 18 years. This photo below is one of the oldest we have in the archive. We have come a long way in that time and we are very much looking forward to where we will go in 2023. The number of our visits will once again exceed one thousand. So we help every day in several places all over the country at the same time. This year as well, in addition to many one-day visits, we are also running several weekly programs in hospitals, where the patients create a puppet theater performance together with us. We also carry out targeted visits of puppeteers to patients where, based on an agreement with the treating doctors and therapists, we become a direct part of the treatment. We are also preparing expeditions for chronically ill and disabled children to specialized camps and treatment stays in hospitals. In addition to children, we do not forget about those born earlier, and this year we are once again expanding not only the number of children's wards that we regularly visit, but also the number of places where we go to see those born earlier... There are over 180,000 hospitalized children in hospitals every year, and far more are in health care and social care facilities for grandparents who rarely leave their beds anymore. We try to help them and their families on this journey. Do you want to be with us?
We are proud of what we accomplished together with you in 2022: We made a total of 1,029 visits to hospitals and clinics. Of these, 624 visits took place in medical facilities in Prague, 116 in Brno and 42 in Ostrava. We visited all regional hospitals in Bohemia and Moravia, as well as many smaller ones. We also visited hospices and geriatrics outside the hospital 12 times. Twice we organized multi-day workshops in psychiatric hospitals. We performed 61 performances for Ukrainian children in regional aid centers and on the train, 31 times we presented our work to the public, to healed children and doctors. 27 times we helped with the treatment of the patient during individual visits based on the instructions of the doctors. Thanks for your help! Thanks to the help of our donors, we helped in more places in 2022 than in previous years! Thank you very much, because without your support it really wouldn't be possible! The cost of one of our days in the hospital is 4,000 CZK. Puppets, stage and staging of a new theatrical performance will cost 25,000-60,000 crowns, depending on its size. Your donations of any amount are always welcome, as they bring relief and smiles to hospitalized children!
